Aluminum Platter (see picture at bottom of page): When bare aluminum is exposed to air, a very thin oxide layer is formed. This oxide layer separates the aluminum surface from the atmosphere. Hence, this thin layer actually protects aluminum from continued oxidation and staining. However, because the oxide layer is very thin, it provides limited protection from transmission fluid, oil leaks, salt deposits and the like.

For cosmetic reasons, we offer two levels of increased protection:

Topcoat - The aluminum platter can be coated with a high performance, high-gloss, rock-hard, water-clear topcoat. This is the same protective coating you might find on aluminum wheels, chrome bumpers, marine railings, and aluminum wheel covers. Like anything exposed to the outdoor elements, whether it’s the paint on your home or the finish on your car, while they may be very durable, they all have a limited life span based upon usage and exposure. This is also true of a topcoat. However, should the topcoat ever show wear, those areas can easily be resurfaced on-site. Option cost: $450.00 (13'); $495.00 (15'); $695.00 (19').

Anodizing – Anodizing is an electrochemical process that thickens and toughens the naturally occurring protective oxide. This coating becomes part of the aluminum. Clear (colors are available - please contact us for pricing) anodized aluminum has an extremely long life span and offers superior durability. The disadvantage of the anodizing is that it is an expensive process, and should wear occur, it can only be repaired by removing the plate and having it treated in an electrochemical tank. Option cost: $1,800.00 (13'); $2,250.00 (15'); $2,800.00 (19').

Steel SubstructureThe industrial grade steel used in the substructure (all the steel parts under the aluminum turntable platter) is delivered uncoated.  As such, it may be delivered with some protective scaling or rust on its surface. However, in most environments, where it will not be exposed to salt or other corrosives, this is a cosmetic issue that should be of little concern as the substructure is not visible after installation. The structure’s integrity will not be affected during the warranty period.

In any location that is within twenty-five miles of a body of salt water (salt can travel inland by fog), to protect your turntable and maintain your warranty, the substructure needs to be protected by powder coating.

Protective Substructure Powder Coating - Powder coating is a type of dry coating, which is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. It produces a high specification coating that is hard and abrasion resistant. The main difference between a conventional liquid paint and a powder coating is the powder coating does not require a solvent to keep the binder and filler parts in a liquid suspension form. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a skin that is significantly tougher than conventional paint. The value of powder coating stems from the relative corrosion resistance of the physical vapor barrier formed, which, under most service conditions, is considerably better than steel. Option cost: $945.00 (13'); $995.00 (15'); $1,495.00 (19').
